During a brief moment of quiet at this year’s Schoolwear Show, David Burgess, Managing Director of David Luke, took the opportunity to rest his weary legs.
Being on your feet all day, talking to customers, can really take it out of you and so you need to take any opportunity for a quick sit-down. Naturally, a small child’s desk is the obvious place for a grown man to do this. You can see where this is going:
The sound of splitting wood was followed by a loud bang that echoed round the exhibition hall. At first the look on David’s face seemed to suggest he was hoping that nobody had noticed, unfortunately the hysterical laughing from the 50 people within a 20m radius of the David Luke stand, dashed his hopes. His colleagues leapt to the rescue to try and put the desk back together.
Unfortunately they were unable to restore the desk to its former state, and so it was left to a couple of resourceful, ever-dependable Sales Agents to complete the job. Overnight they were able to source a hammer, nails and some wood glue.
Its probably best not to ask where they came from. The next morning, cue more loud bangs echoing round the exhibition hall.
Thanks to Glenn and Duncan the desk was repaired and nobody would ever have known that just a short while before it was in 30 different pieces, and David thought the only damage would be the tear in his suit trousers and the bruising to various sensitive areas………then Alan Thomas decided to lean on the desk again.
